Gorgeous Dawson is a 7 year old German Shepherd boy in foster care in Norwich, Norfolk through Safe Rescue. He would prefer owners who are experienced with the breed.
Dawson had spent most of his life in a Romanian shelter before coming to the UK. As with many rescue dogs, he takes his time deciding who he trusts and he assumes most men are baddies. He will gradually learn to trust individual men if they put in the time and treats and aren’t too pushy. For those he has decided to trust, he’s a fuss-loving soppy old sausage!
If an unknown man visits the house though, Dawson will tell him in no uncertain terms that he’d better not do anything untoward. It’s best for everyone if Dawson gets put in his crate whenever there is a new visitor, so he knows he’s not on guard duty.
Dawson loves his walks! What could be better than adventures with your family? He does need owners who project calm confidence so that he knows he’s not responsible for protecting everyone. He behaves in a relaxed way when out with his foster family because he knows he’s not in charge and therefore feels secure. He previously was adopted but returned because of his protective instincts, which is why owners who are used to GSDs or similar breeds would be preferred.
Dawson is as intelligent and responsive to his humans as you’d expect from a GSD. He listens and wants to please. He’s generally a relaxed and loving boy. He likes tummy rubs and cuddles from those he loves. He will announce when someone’s at the door, naturally, but is otherwise quiet and well behaved. He’s happy to go in his crate when you say so. He enjoys some sofa time too though!
Dawson really deserves owners who will give him the right sort of environment where he knows he’s part of a strongly bonded family and that it’s not his job to look after everyone. He will obviously need to get to know people and settle in, at his own pace. He will be the most devoted, loyal dog you could wish for once he knows he truly belongs.
