19/7/21 – We are delighted to hear that Snowy has now found a home!

—————

Snowy is a beautiful 9-year-old German Shepherd x Husky girl who is with RSPCA Millbrook in Chobham, Surrey.

Snowy has severe separation anxiety and cannot be left on her own at all. Please do not apply unless there is someone at home throughout the day, every day, on an ongoing basis. You must also be willing to fund and work with a clinical behaviourist to help Snowy.

Lovely Snowy is an older lady with lots of spirit. She is very affectionate once she knows you and will smother you in kisses if you let her. She loves human company and enjoys a good scratch and cuddle. She plays with toys occasionally and it is super cute to see. Once she is in a home environment she will probably be much more playful with her toys.

Poor Snowy has severe separation anxiety and cannot cope with being left alone, even if only for a few minutes. She becomes super stressed and restless when left and will bark constantly. She needs an owner who is at home 99.9% of the time. The rescue knows this is a big ask, but they are hopeful that someone special is out there.

Snowy’s new owner must be willing to consult a clinical behaviourist to help Snowy with her anxieties, and you must be financially able to fund this. It will take a lot of time, patience and training.

Below are links to help with finding a clinical behaviourist. You will need to have looked into a behaviourist and their fees and have a registered behaviourist on board before rehoming Snowy, so that you can begin work on her separation anxiety straight away.

While trying to help Snowy with her separation issues she will not be able to be left alone at all, so you must have friends or family that can look after Snowy if you go out. Snowy is the type of dog that you will need to take with you even if you are only putting the bins out, or be left with someone while you do that. For this reason Snowy needs to live with more than one person, ideally in a detached property.

Snowy sleeps in a crate and is very comfortable in this and knows that ‘bed’ means it’s time to go and lie down inside it. The crate gives her security and she relaxes much better in it than she does on a standard dog bed. New owners will need to get Snowy a crate so that she has this in her new home. She will willingly take herself into her crate just to relax and chill out. RSPCA Millbrook leave the crate door open all the time and she is often seen lying in her crate.

Snowy lives for her walks and she walks well on her lead and harness. She may be older but that doesn’t slow her down. You will need to be able to take Snowy on lots of different walks of various lengths and routes. She gets so excited when she sees her lead and gives little barks of joy as well as bouncing all over the place. She needs work on recall so will need to be kept on a lead in public places – because of this she will need a large private garden with secure fencing for playtime at home. Snowy really enjoys chasing tennis balls so you will need an abundant supply! She does get a little stiff after lots of exercise or lying down for too long.

When out walking at Millbrook, Snowy has walked with a few different dogs. She walks nicely next to them and doesn’t take much interest in them after an intial sniff. However, being an older girl she does not enjoy bouncy dogs in her face. Snowy would not like dogs coming into her home and stealing all her attention and for this reason she needs to be your only dog.

She can be cheeky when she knows you have food, and has been known to drink tea from a cup that has been left unattended, but this just adds to her character. Of course you will need to keep an eye on her until she learns the rules of the house. She could possibly live with children of secondary school age but must be your only pet.

Snowy is such a loving girl and will be a fantastic addition to the right home. Could offer Snowy 100% companionship and are you willing to fund and work with a clinical behaviourist?
