19/6/23 – Zina’s found a home!

Zina is a 7-year-old Central Asian Shepherd girl who arrived with Dogs4Rescue from a rescue in Greece. She is looking for a home local to the rescue, for reasons described below.

This big beautiful girl is looking for a very special home and she is so deserving of securing her happy ever after. When Zina arrived from Greece she was in terrible shape with significant skeletal problems. One of her knees was completely fused (likely from botched surgery) and the other barely functioned. She was in pain, walked hunched over and was severely underweight with pancreatitis. Poor Zina!

After sorting her pain relief and dietary problems, Zina went for her first surgery in the summer. Afraid of unfamiliar situations, she has endured countless vet visits and hospital stays, and always with good grace. She contracted an infection after her operation which required another lengthy stay at the vets and for a few tense weeks her team feared the operation might not have been a success as she still refused to weight bear. She continued with strict rest and tedious aftercare, and thankfully her most recent X-ray showed that the bones had knitted well, albeit taking longer than expected.

With this good news at last, Dogs4Rescue feel that Zina is ready to take the next step and find a home of her own. Zina’s medical care will be ongoing as she has significant muscle atrophy from years of hunched walking, and therefore she needs physio appointments and hydrotherapy sessions. The rescue is therefore looking for a home for Zina local to Manchester so that they can continue supporting her veterinary care.

Health issues aside, Zina really is a joy and she is extremely friendly and lovable with everyone she meets. She is very good with cats (she will try to mother them) and could live with a compatible doggy friend. Zina would benefit from an adult-only, quiet household as she finds loud noises very scary. Despite her size, this wonderful girl is just a big baby!

Zina is clean and non-destructive in the home and she would be fine to be left for a few hours. She would love to have a large garden to stretch her legs in and to roll around in the soil – this is her absolute favourite thing to do!

Could you offer beautiful Zina the happy home she so thoroughly deserves?
