This is an urgent appeal for a temporary foster placement for closely bonded best friends Reuben and Chelsea. We are seeking a pet-free foster home, on one level, and it would be ideal if you would like to foster them with a view to subsequent adoption. They are currently in London.
Reuben is a gorgeous 8-year-old Lurcher boy. His best friend is Chelsea, a pretty 11-year-old Cavalier x Bichon girl. They have always lived together and have a very strong bond. Reuben and Chelsea need to move urgently as their owner is working away and is no longer able to give them the care they need.
Reuben and Chelsea have been on our waiting list for a long time, waiting for a place with Oldies Club rescue, but sadly we still have no foster home available that will take both dogs. We are therefore running this special appeal to recruit a foster home specifically for Reuben and Chelsea together. They are the best of friends and love to snuggle up and sleep together. Please only get in touch if you want both of these adorable dogs!
Once assessed in foster they will be available for adoption. We would love to hear from you if you would like to foster with a view to subsequently adopting them both.
We will arrange transport to their foster home and ideally this should be within 3 hours of London. They have lived with children and are very good with them, so should be fine to live with sensible dog-savvy children aged 10+. Although they are good with other dogs, we are ideally seeking a pet-free home for them, to remove the risk of them not getting along with resident dogs and us then needing to move them urgently again. They can’t live with cats or small furries.
Reuben has only three legs and cannot manage stairs. He and Chelsea are used to sleeping with their owner at night, on her bed, so need a foster home that is on one level as they will want to at least sleep in the same room as you.
Their foster home must have its own private secure garden that is easily accessible with no or very few steps. Any garden ponds must be safely covered or fenced off.
Reuben and Chelsea are very loving and they like to be with their human. They are easy-going dogs and a joy to be around. Reuben and Chelsea love their food and treats. Their owner feeds them raw food as kibble upsets Reuben’s tummy. They are fine to eat tinned or cooked food though.
Reuben the Lurcher is described as a calm and gentle boy with a laid-back temperament. Reuben is tri-pawed following an accident involving a large dog on an extending lead running into him and breaking his leg. His leg had to be amputated but he generally manages well. He isn’t interested in playtime, unlike Chelsea, but he loves walks of 30-60 minutes per day. He walks well on lead and doesn’t pull. He isn’t let off lead much since his accident, but when given a chance he enjoys having a run around the park, chasing squirrels, and then tends to snooze for the rest of the day. If he has to negotiate any steps on his walks he isn’t keen and needs to take his time. He can’t walk on laminate type floors. If you have hard floors he will need to have rugs down to avoid slips. He has a slight heart murmur (no treatment needed currently). Reuben is OK to be left for a few hours but wouldn’t suit a home with full-time workers as he loves to be around people. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Chelsea the Cavalier x Bichon is described as a gentle, friendly girl. She loves her regular morning playtime – tug, ball throwing etc. This is something she has enjoyed since a puppy and so she would like it be continued. She will bark at the doorbell but is everyone’s friend once whoever is at the door is inside. Chelsea doesn’t need much exercise but she enjoys walks with Reuben. She walks well on lead and doesn’t pull. She is OK to be left for a few hours and will just sleep, but we wouldn’t consider a home with people who go out to work full time. Chelsea is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
They are both house-trained and will go to the door to ask to be let out. There is always the possibility of an accident or two during the early days of any dog being in a new home though of course. Both dogs happily socialise with other dogs when on lead. They are only let off lead when there are no other dogs around though as their owner is cautious after Reuben’s accident.
