Guinness is a 14 years old Staffie who came into Oldies Club care in November 2025 as his family migrated to Australia and couldn’t take him with them.
He was initially anxious when he first arrived but began to settle into his foster home relatively quickly.
Guinness came in with two known mast cell tumours but his health check also flagged up issues from a blood test and that he would require a dental. Despite not showing the traditional symptoms, Guinness was tested for Cushing’s disease. Sadly this came back positive and he was prescribed medication and time was spent between the fosterer and vets to get the dosage correct.
Once this was settled Guinness operation was arranged, to remove his cancer, and his much needed dental. The good news is that the mast cells tumours were removed and confirmed to be low grade and unlikely to have spread. Unfortunately during his procedure it was noted that Guinness had developed a heart murmur. A reassessment once he had recovered confirmed that it was grade 4/6 and he was a step closer to heart failure but not there yet. He was prescribed medication which he will need to take for the rest of his days.
Due to his age and multiple health issues it was decided that Guinness would be placed in our sponsor dog scheme. This means he will remain in his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.
Guinness has no idea that he’s quite poorly. He has the loveliest, sweetest, funniest temperament. He loves snuggling up on the sofa with his fosterer and he sleeps on the bed with them at night. Everyone he meets falls in love with him, and wherever he goes he makes new friends and scores lots of treats!
He has come on leaps and bounds with other dogs now and he walks so perfectly on the lead he looks like he’s showing off! There is a secure dog field near his foster home and they have taken him to a few times and he loves it there.
Guinness loves playing with a tennis ball and so they have lots of fun at home with him barrelling around chasing it. He is a bit of a clumsy oaf. He is so good playing fetch though as he actually always bring the ball back!
