18/01 – Douglas had become poorly and the vets discovered he was suffering from renal failure on-top of his other medical issues. Douglas sadly passed away today. Sleep tight little one, go and join Lulu x

Douglas is a 17 year old Lhasa Apso x Shih Tzu who originally came into Oldies Club care in 2010 with his bestest buddy Lulu a Cairn Terier X. They were adopted but sadly had to come back into Oldies Club care due to an unfortunate change in their adopters’ circumstances 3 years later.

In 2014 Oldies Club decided that Douglas and Lulu had had enough upheaval in their little lives and so they were both placed in our sponsor dog scheme. This means they remained in their lovely foster home on a permanent basis with the charity covering the cost of their vet bills for the rest of their lives.

Sadly on Christmas day 2017 Lulu lost her battle with Lymphoma leaving Douglas on his own. Poor Douglas has taken the loss of Lulu very hard. He had been looking all over the house for her.

Over the years poor Douglas has developed a lengthy list of medical issues. As well as age related deterioration in his sight and hearing he suffers from geriatric vestibular disease and dementia. He is taking medication for these. He also has a heart murmur but does not as yet take any medication for this. Douglas recently had a lump removed from him mouth. He bounced back pretty much straight away and enjoyed is dinner of Salmon and Mash.

Inspite of everything Douglas still enjoys life. He loves to chill with his fosterer and he will put his head on their lap. As long as he is touching his person, he is happy.  He especially enjoys being allowed to sleep on his fosterers bed.

Douglas loves his walks although they are becoming more of a potter with age. There is nothing better than being out and about and enjoying the sniffs.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Douglas, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
