Loving Matilda’s sad story is one of quiet bravery. She found herself at risk in the pound, facing euthanasia through no fault of her own. When Friends of Akitas first met her, her skin was painfully sore and split and her coat was thin across her whole body. She was uncomfortable, frightened and desperately in need of kindness; and that’s exactly what she’s been given.
Matilda is a 7 year old Akita. Since coming into care, she has blossomed. Her skin is healing beautifully, her coat is slowly returning and her spirit, well, that was always perfect. She truly deserves her miracle home.
Matilda adores human company. If she knows you’re nearby at kennels, she cries for you. She just wants closeness, reassurance and gentle affection. She has a soft, sweet temperament, just loves attention and loves her walks even more. She is lead trained.
Matilda has been good out and about with some other dogs, so she may be able to live with a large breed, neutered, friendly male, pending successful introductions. Matilda could also join a family with older children. It’s not known how she reacts to cats.
Matilda is looking for a calm, comfortable home where she can finally exhale and feel safe with a foster or adoptive angel; someone patient, loving and committed to helping her continue her recovery. Her skin still benefits from gentle care to help her coat grow back fully with regular soothing baths.
Matilda deserves her chance. She has fought through discomfort, fear and neglect — and she’s still the gentlest soul. She has the most beautiful heart and she’s ready to give it to someone who will cherish her.
