28/5/17 – Such sad news about Shiva. Wythall Animal Sanctuary told us: “Shiva sadly suffered a massive stroke and was left so debilitated we had no choice but to help her across the bridge. Shiva had become a big part of our rescue and a real favourite amongst her carers, especially a lad called Mike who was her special friend. Ironically Shiva had been in the process of getting to know a potential adopter, so this was not what we were expecting for her. We were anticipating a much happier time for her so it makes it even harder.” :(

Sleep tight now, beautiful Shiva. xx

——————-

Shiva, pronounced Sheeva, is an 11 year old Labrador lady who has an exotic name as she was originally from Gibraltar. She was brought to the UK by her owner, who then worked long hours and could no longer keep Shiva. Shiva went to a friend of her owner, but the friend’s dog didn’t get along with Shiva, so she is at Wythall Animal Sanctuary in Birmingham.

Shiva recently thought she had found a new home, but it sadly didn’t work out. Although Shiva is loving and cuddly, she is a strong and confident girl who settles in quickly and likes to think she’s in charge, so her new owner will need to be able to be firm with her when needed.

Shiva is a beautiful large girl (around 40kg), who despite having a touch of arthritis still has a playful side and enjoys trying to encourage the old resident dogs at the sanctuary to play with her. Bless!

Shiva could live with a similar-sized, laid-back, sensible dog, provided their initial meeting at the sanctuary went well. She needs a home without cats as she didn’t get on with the cat in a previous home. Shiva wouldn’t want to be poked and prodded by children (who would!) so would like an adult-only home where she can enjoy some home comforts in peace and quiet.

Beautiful Shiva can be wary of strangers so would like a home without many visitors. She would like her owner to be around for a large part of the day to give her the exercise and attention she craves. Shiva still loves a good play and she enjoys human attention and cuddles.

Shiva arrived at Wythall quite overweight. She has been on a diet and has lost lots of excess weight and is enjoying regular light exercise. She’s on a old-girl dose of Metacam daily for her arthritis, and Wythall are applying a basic antiseptic cream to her elbows and chin, but other than that she’s in good health.

This majestic, confident older lady really should be in a loving home. Are you the experienced owner Shiva is waiting for?
