15/3/09 We have received sad news today. Poor Rocky had to be rushed to the vets due to a haemorrhage, but sadly he had to be put to sleep. Run free Rocky.

Rocky is a gorgeous 15 year old Springer Spaniel gentleman. Rocky came into RSPCA Macclesfield‘s care because his elderly owner is in and out of care, and had to leave Rocky on his own in the house for days or weeks at time. A relative had been going in daily to see to him, and sometimes he went into kennels, which at his age just isn’t right.

Rocky’s owner had only had him 18 months, so there is no background information on him, and his age is an estimate. However, RSPCA Macclesfield already know that Rocky doesn’t have a bad bone in his body, he’s simply a gorgeous, loveable dog who deserves the best retirement home there is! He is very alert, bright, confident and cheeky for such an elderly chap.

Rocky is fully vaccinated and neutered. He is on anti-inflammatory medication, as he has very weak back legs and struggles to get up. He will be going for a check-up again but he is very mobile and enjoys pottering about. He is a little deaf, so needs to be on the lead when he is out and about.

Rocky only needs short walks, but he does enjoy them so he would like an owner who is able to take him out for a potter several times a day – this will help keep him mobile too. He does sometimes struggle with steps and raised areas. Rocky travels well in the car but you have to drive slowly so he doesn’t lose his balance, and a makeshift dog ramp so he can get in and out of the car would be a good idea.

Rocky was the only pet in his previous home. Although there is no reason to think that Rocky will not get on with other dogs and cats, he definitely needs a calm relaxed environment where he will not be troubled by bouncy youngsters (or even bouncy oldies!)

Because he’s so old, RSPCA Macclesfield are looking for a very special person who can provide Rocky a quiet warm home with full time company and above all, love.
Can you find it in your heart to let Rocky spend the rest of his life in your home?

RSPCA Macclesfield run a special scheme for oldies -please ask the dog rehoming coordinator for more information about the support available to anyone adopting Rocky.
