Distinguished Derek is a 9 year and 9 month old Boxer boy who’s very handsome, with a mischievous glint in his eye and a very active sense of humour. Although an older gent, he’s still full of life and always up for a bit of fun and certainly not slowing down. Jerry Green Dog Rescue in South Lincolnshire are helping him to find a loving and forever home with a secure garden.
Derek is looking for a new home with people who really get dogs like him, and having experience with large or similar breeds is important. Boxers have a special personality, and he comes with all the classic quirks: expressive face, big feelings and a tendency to do things his own way. If you understand that intensity and charm often come as a package deal, you’ll get along just fine.
Once Derek is settled, he could be left alone for a couple of hours without a problem. He’s very happy snoozing the day away in a warm, comfy spot — one of his favourite pastimes. Derek prefers to keep things calm. Other dogs can be a bit much for him, so he’d love quiet walks where he doesn’t have to interact with anyone. He can be strong on the lead at times (he knows where he’s going and is quite confident about it), so he needs a confident handler who’s comfortable managing that.
Derek is house-trained and could live with children aged 11 and above, as long as they’ve been around dogs before and know how to respect his space. He’s a big lad with a lot of personality after all and would suit being the only pet in the home for all the attention.
Like most gentlemen of his age, Derek has a few aches and pains, the usual ones that come with getting older. He might also be a little hard of hearing, although somehow he can hear a food packet opening from anywhere in the house. Funny how that works!
