‘OLD DOG OF THE WEEK’ FEATURES NEW PHOTOS AND A FRESH WRITE-UP FOR AN OVERLOOKED OLDIE THAT HAS BEEN ON OUR WEBSITE FOR A WHILE BUT IS STILL WAITING FOR A NEW HOME.

Please help Jake by sharing this page!
Jolly Jake is a 9-year-old Beagle in the care of Last Chance Animal Rescue at their kennels in Edenbridge, Kent. He wants an adult-only home with no other pets but he does like having walkies with his dog friends.

Jake takes a while to trust people as he was mistreated by a previous owner. He’s wary of strangers, especially if they try to touch him.

With people he knows and trusts, it’s a different story and he’s an affectionate boy. He does like to snuggle up to you on the sofa and prefers this to being approached and fussed. He feels safest if it’s on his terms.

Jake is extremely food orientated! He was overweight when he came into rescue and had developed diabetes. He has insulin injections twice a day which he’s very good about. He’s on a strictly controlled diet now and has carrots as treats, which he loves!

The diabetes has caused some loss of vision. Like most dogs somewhat lacking in sight, he manages really well with his other senses; the nose knows. He just needs a bit of extra consideration in some situations.

Jakes loves getting out to explore. He isn’t fast or athletic but really enjoys a snuffly plod. He gets on with other dogs in general, especially ones he meets regularly, but he can be alarmed if any suddenly appear and get too close. He needs his human to advocate for him and ward off bouncy types who he can’t see coming. Jake is a joy to take out and about. He so much deserves to be living his best life!
