11/2/20 – Lucky Minty has been adopted by his foster carer!

Minty is a 12-year-old Yorkshire Terrier boy who came into the Oldies Club rescue after his owner went into care. He is in an Oldies Club foster home in Christchurch, East Dorset, while he waits for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Overview of Minty: Minty took about 2 weeks to settle into life at his foster home. He needs a household with people around most of the time and where he is the only pet. His new owner will need to be very active as he loves long walks.

Can be left for short periods: Minty should be OK to be left for a couple of hours but he does love to have the company of people so he wouldn’t suit a working household.

Needs to be an only pet: Minty needs to be the only dog in the household. He is reactive to dogs when out on walks. He can’t live with cats.

Good with visiting children: Minty was fine with his foster carer’s 5 year old grandchild when he visited at Christmas.

Loves long walks: Minty is currently enjoying two on-lead walks a day for approximately 45 minutes to an hour each walk. He is a very active boy and is always ready to go again if he thinks you are going out. He is good on the lead and due to him being hard of hearing, and dog reactive, he can’t be let off the lead.

Good in the car: Minty loves going in the car. He is well behaved and travels well.

Minty’s favourite pastimes: His favourite things are going for walks, meal times, and snuggling up next to his human for some cuddle time.

Minty’s dislikes: He doesn’t like other dogs or cats. He hasn’t reacted to fireworks or thunder – perhaps he can’t hear them.

Minty’s ideal home: He needs a home where his people are around for most of the day and he can snuggle up next to you on the sofa in between his walks.

Health notes: Minty is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has been wormed, flea treated and had a dental which resulted in him having his last 4 teeth removed. Minty gets very dry, flaky skin so needs a good quality food and he also has medicated baths weekly which keeps it under control.

Minty’s foster carer says:Minty is a lovely little dog that is very quiet in the house and welcomes any visitors with a waggy tail. His only issue is his dislike of other dogs and cats.”

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
