Cute Bruce is a 9-year-old Border Terrier x Jack Russell who came into the Oldies Club rescue because his owner no longer had enough time to devote to him. Bruce is in a foster home in Christchurch, Dorset, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Very good in foster: Lovely Bruce settled at his foster home straight away. He is house trained and has not had any accidents in the house, in fact he has been the perfect house guest.

Can be left for short periods: In foster, Bruce has only been left a couple of times, for about 1 hour. He is always pleased to greet his foster carers on their return. He would like a home with people who are at home most of the time as he does enjoy company.

Fine with small dogs: Bruce has been good with the small dogs he has met, but definitely not with large, bouncy off-lead dogs. Bruce could possibly live with a small, calm dog after a careful introduction.

Home without cats: Bruce will walk past cats without taking much notice, but his foster carer feels that he would certainly chase them if he were off lead. He therefore can’t live with cats.

OK with older children: Bruce tends to ignore children when out walking. He should be happy to live with kind children aged over 12 as he does like to have a good play and run.

Enjoys walks: Bruce is good on walks and tends to ignore other dogs. He has only been off lead a couple of times and has been on a long training lead for peace of mind. His recall is good though and if you are playing ball with him he won’t go far at all. Bruce is having at least an hour’s walk twice a day and some days longer.

Enjoys the car: Bruce likes going in the car but does get very excited and vocal when he reaches his destination. He will also bark at dogs and people outside of the car.

Bruce’s favourite pastimes: Bruce loves to play, especially with his ball. He also likes you to hide his toy and then let him go and find it. He likes to lie in the garden when the weather is warm and just happily be close to you.

Bruce’s dislikes: Bruce reacts badly at the vets and has to be muzzled. He doesn’t like big lorries or noisy motorbikes and he reacts by moving away from them. He doesn’t like large, loose dogs running up to him. He will bark at dogs and animals on the TV.

Bruce’s ideal home: He would like an active home where people have the time to play with him and simply be with him. He likes to get onto the sofa and cuddle up next to you in the evenings. He also likes to sleep on your bed and will sleep there all night. A rural home would be perfect for Bruce.

Health notes: Bruce is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. He hates the vets and is very frightened so must wear a muzzle for vet visits. Some social visits to his new vet might be a good idea to try to help him be calmer in readiness for actual appointments.

More from Bruce’s foster carer: Bruce is active, loving, loyal, and clever. He has been a good boy in foster but can get vocal at times with passing dogs and people outside the house. He is a very loving little dog who sleeps through the night with no problems. He is very food orientated and could probably do with losing a few pounds.

If you would like to offer Bruce a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Bruce can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better though, subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
