26/5/23 – We’ve just heard that Handsome Hugo has found a wonderful new home on the Isle of Wight, all thanks to the magic of the Oldies Club website. Woo-hoo!

Hugo is a gorgeous black Labrador X who is about 12 years old and in the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Tring, Hertfordshire.

Whilst his photos make Hugo look very much like a Labrador, actually his other parent must have been much smaller and longer (possibly a Dachshund), because he has short, little legs and only weighs 10kg. How adorable!

What Hugo lacks in stature, he certainly makes up for in energy and an overall love of life. He has a great temperament and was described by his previous owner as ‘loving, caring and chilled’. He has shared a home with children aged from 6 to 14 years, and is said to have enjoyed being included in whatever the family were doing. Hugo’s owners sadly had to part with him because of work commitments abroad. And another family member who had previously assisted with Hugo’s care is now very unwell and unable to cover the regular absences.

Hugo has a good standard of basic obedience. He walks well on the lead but previously was not let off lead because his recall skills are not the best, especially if there are interesting smells to follow up on. At the Rescue Centre he trots along happily in the company of other dogs, but he gets anxious and will bark if larger or very excited dogs rush up to him. He has not lived with cats or other small furries. For this reason, a home as the only pet may suit Hugo best, but a compatible friend is not out of the question.

Hugo is relaxed in the car and enjoys trips out, but he can be left at home on his own for 3 or 4 hours when necessary. Although he is a senior dog, Hugo would like a home where he will not only receive lots of love, but also regular daily exercise, preferably in a rural environment. A secure garden, a comfy bed and someone home much of the day are all important to him.

He is neutered and at his recent health check was declared to be in excellent shape. A scale and polish of his teeth at some stage could be considered but is not urgent, so Hugo is ready and waiting to find his forever home.

Could you offer Hugo the fun and fulfilling life he will so appreciate?
