27/06/2023: Zach has been adopted! Hooray!

Zach is a 15-year-old Parsons Jack Russell who is at RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre near Taunton, Somerset.

Zach is a very special boy indeed. He arrived in the care of the animal centre via an RSPCA Inspector, after it was discovered that Zach had been living shut in a crate. Poor Zach had very sore skin and was suffering from mange when he was rescued, so he had to spend a long time in the isolation block being treated for this. Once he was given the all-clear for mange, Zach went into a foster home to continue his recovery.

Zach is now looking for a lovely retirement home to call his own and he is sure to make someone the most amazing little companion! Zach is loved by everyone who meets him. He adores everybody and is happiest when someone is giving him a good scratch. He thinks he is a lot younger than his 15 years and sometimes flies about, doing zoomies round and round!

Zach settled into his foster home really quickly. He loves to sleep on the sofa and will nestle in and make himself comfortable. He is fine being left alone for a while and does not become distressed. He is housetrained, travels well in the car and loves a potter on or off-lead (although he is rather hard of hearing, so off-lead would be best in a safe area). Zach is very friendly towards dogs he meets on walks and has been sharing his foster home with a small, calm female dog but is also perfectly happy getting all the attention, so he could either live with a gentle, calm female dog, or as an only pet. Because of his age, Zach would be better suited to a home with older children or an adult only home. He is looking for a home without cats.

Zach is neutered. He has osteoarthritis and mild luxating patella: no pain relief is needed at present but he’s likely to need it in the winter months. He is deaf, and his eyesight is not perfect. He has itchy skin so needs to be on medication to keep it under control. However, Zach’s health issues don’t really affect his quality of life, and RSPCA West Hatch’s vet will be more than happy to discuss this in more detail with prospective adopters.

Could you offer Zach a lovely new home?
