Gorgeous Moss has spent her entire life as a working gun dog and everything she’s ever known has changed now that she has come into the care of Starfish Dog Rescue. She is currently being fostered in an adult home in Gloucester and living with other dogs and regular visiting dogs.
Moss is a 13-year-old Springer Spaniel. Unsurprisingly, she’s confused and anxious, not understanding this sudden shift in her life. However, even in these early days, she’s showing the resilience that dogs so often do and she’s a quiet, gentle soul, with the softest nature and not a bad bone in her body.
Watching Moss try to make sense of this new world is both moving and heartbreaking, but there are already flickers of hope. She takes comfort in the calm presence of other dogs, and when the smell of chicken hits the air, there’s even a little tail wag. She is so gentle and welcoming of new people who have come to say a gentle hello.
Moss has already been to the vets where it was discovered that her mouth was in a dreadful state, full of rotten, infected teeth, and with a hole where the infection had eaten through. Surgery was necessary, though thankfully much of the dental work was easy, as many of the teeth fell out with barely a touch. She’s now on strong antibiotics and she’ll soon feel so much better.
Moss faces an uphill battle as an older Spaniel who has never known the comforts of family life, but there is someone out there with a soft spot for the oldies. Someone who will see beyond the years and offer her the quiet, loving retirement she so deserves.
It’s very early days and Moss is still under assessment, but the Rescue hopes to share updates as she begins to settle and understand that this new life might just be the best part of all.
