Gorgeous Ruby came into the care of Starfish Dog Rescue after being given up by a local game keeper with her brother Bruce whom she had been living with and 5 other dogs.

Ruby has a big heart and a lovely temperament. She is approximately 7 – 8 years old and is an ex-working Cocker Spaniel being fostered in an adult home with 3 other dogs in Gloucestershire. She was very unsure when she first got to her foster home and found it very scary, but after a few days she started to settle down. She has fallen in love with her foster Dad and will not let him out of her sight, everywhere he goes Ruby wants to be and is at her happiest laying in his arms being cuddled.

After living at lifetime in kennels as part of a very large group of working dogs, Ruby has had a very restricted, small world, unfortunately where people do not have the time for her; it’s just the way that life is and why she had carried a rock in her kennel as her only toy. Ruby is such a loving, big-hearted, bright little lady and it’s difficult getting freedom into the wide world with on-tap love; she cannot believe it’s not going to be taken away. She needs to know that she will always be loved now and never shut away, but it takes time for dogs like Ruby to realise that. So now her foster home’s task is to build up her confidence so she can bond with other people.

Ruby is going to form a very strong bond with whoever adopts her so she needs the right person who wants a dog like Ruby and understands her – she is not a dog that can be left for hours on her own; Ruby wants a best friend who is kind and around.

She is good off the lead and fine with the other dogs, although she is not much interested. She travels well and has been out on group walks off the lead with no problems. Her house-training is more or less there.

Ruby has started her vaccinations and is receiving treatment for ear mites. She still requires a dental, to be spayed and have a skin tag removed which will all be done before she leaves.

Please watch her videos here, here and here. There are more of her here.
