26/6/23 – Cheerful Sunny has found a wonderful new home with another Springer and will be on his way there very soon. Have fun, Sunny!

Sunny is an 8-year-old Springer Spaniel, smaller than average for the breed. He’s in the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Tring, Hertfordshire. He came in as a stray so they have no history for him, just the evidence of what a lovely dog he is!

Whatever his past, Sunny is a gentle, affectionate and happy dog who just wants to please, hence his new name. He just radiates sunshine! He’s an active dog who loves his walks and, like most Spaniels, the wetter and muddier the better.

Sunny gets on well with other dogs, mostly he just ignores the new ones he is introduced to but, once he gets a bit more confident, he will try to engage a bit more and run round and have a play.

Sunny walks well on the lead and, although his recall skills are good in an enclosed paddock, his new owner will need to have a secure garden because he does like to explore every little nook and cranny for new smells.

He’s been good on short trips in the car and doesn’t show any obvious signs of separation anxiety. He could probably be left for a few hours without becoming too stressed, once he’s settled. He has not been cat tested.

The staff who care for Sunny feel he would be best suited to a quiet home in a fairly rural setting with plenty of walking. Without knowing where he came from, an adult only home would be ideal but, with careful introductions and supervision, older children visiting occasionally would probably be welcomed by him.

Sunny was underweight when he arrived at CDRS but is steadily putting it on again and has no known health issues. He’s had some dental work done recently, with 8 extractions but has recovered well from this.
