  • Oldies Club Stamp Collection Suspended, After 10th May

Sadly the company that has bought the stamps we have collected in the past has ceased trading. We have found someone who will buy the stamps we have at the moment as a ‘one off’, but after that we will no longer be collecting stamps for fundraising unless we can locate another company prepared to buy used stamps on a regular basis. If anyone has any stamps already collected for us please could you send them as soon as possible so that they can be added to the current batch? Any stamps received after May 10th may be passed on to […]

  • A thank you to KPMG…

The Oldies Club has just received a donation of £1000 from the KPMG small charities fund, towards our Vet Fund Appeal. The donation was applied for by Oldies Club supporter Mark Poles, who works for the accountancy firm’s Plymouth office. We estimate that this will probably cover all the vet bills for about 6 oldies. Because older dogs often need extra care and dental work, our vet fees are particularly high compared with most dog rescues. Many thanks to Mark and KPMG for arranging this generous donation. Share to help find homes for old dogs…

  • Oldies Club becomes a registered charity!

We’re delighted to announce that the Oldies Club is now officially a registered charity. Our shiny new Charity Number is 1118246. Huge thanks to everyone who worked to get this sorted out, particularly our marvelous Special Ops team of Frances and Gio for wrestling with the paperwork, Liz our hyper-efficient treasurer and Cindy our Chairman for making sure all the info was in order, and everyone else who pushed, pulled, made supportive (or, occasionally sarcastic) comments. Charity status will enable us to raise funds more efficiently to cover the ever-growing Oldies vets bills, enable us to get corporate donations, and we […]

  • Website spring clean planned – some items will be removed

In a few weeks time, we’re going to be giving this website a bit of a cleanout. We will soon be coming up to 900 dogs listed on the website and rehomed, which is excellent news! However, unfortunately we cannot really store all the photographs and records in public forever: it’s getting harder to run searches, the sheer number of images we are storing is getting to the silly stage, and generally the site is using rather a lot of system resources that aren’t strictly necessary for the site to do its important job of finding homes for dogs. Therefore we […]

  • Oldies Club adds support to Say No to BSL website

January 2007 The Oldies Club has added its support to the new ‘Say No to Breed Specific Legislation‘ website, set up due to recent media reports calling for more legislation for “dangerous” dogs. The Kennel Club and Dogs Trust have both made statements (which can be found on the above website) opposing Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) and any amnesty which would lead to the death of innocent dogs. Well known dog trainer Victoria Stillwell (of It’s Me or The Dog fame) has also spoken out against BSL and a proposed amnesty. An amnesty proposed by Merseyside Police may start as early […]

  • March for the Greyhounds 18th Nov 2006

There will be a march protesting the continuing abandonment and killing of greyhounds, inspired by the Sunday Times news stories from July 2006, in London on November 18th. This is a general protest and a chance for all doglovers, whether greyhound owners, owners of other breeds or people who just like dogs and don’t like to see them mistreated to make their views known. Could you spare a while to make your views known? The Oldies Club, of course, deals with older dogs from all breeds, but this is still an important problem to us. The racing industry in the UK […]
