Lovely Benson is a brindle and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has lived all his life as a much-loved companion, belonging to an older couple living in Lancashire. As their health deteriorated, they worried they could no longer provide Benson with the level of exercise and care he had always enjoyed. The final straw came when they had to move south to be with family members so they could be looked after. Benson lived here quite happily with another dog but the tenancy agreement did not permit a second dog, so the heart-breaking decision to part with him had to be made.

Benson is 11 years old and was born on 18/8/2012. He is an affectionate, well-socialised dog who loves people and going for walks. Despite being a senior dog, Benson thinks he is much younger than his years.

Now at Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Tring, Herts., Benson is enjoying a new lease of life. He has bags of energy and enthusiasm. He loves his walks and can’t wait to go out in the morning. He can get a bit over-enthusiastic and is inclined to jump up and pull on the lead, but he soon settles and walks quite nicely on a short lead.

Benson would love to be offered a quieter home with a secure garden to stretch his legs. Regular walks, lots of fuss and not too much time left alone would meet his needs perfectly. Benson may be suitable to share his home with a compatible dog, pending introductions. He has lived with children from babies to 13 years of age but, due to his bouncy behaviour when excited, may be best suited to a home with visiting older children. It’s not known if he could live with cats.

Benson has done little in the way of car travel and is inclined to be a bit anxious at first but will then settle down. His former owners lovingly describe Benson as ‘a big, soft lad’. Staff at the Rescue Centre would certainly agree with that and feel he would be a great companion for someone familiar with this popular breed, albeit not one to just sit on the sofa and cuddle – although he likes that too.

Benson is neutered. He had a benign histiocytoma removed from his right ear several years ago which has not required further treatment. After coming into rescue, Benson had dental treatment to remove a fractured canine and also had his nails trimmed as he is not a fan of having his feet touched. Benson recovered well from this and no other issues have been detected so he is now ready to find his forever home.
