Gorgeous Boss is a lively, 8 year old Sprocker Spaniel who has come to Hay Animal Rescue Team in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales, having lost his beloved owner. He has been in foster and is now ready for his forever home.
Boss adores human company and cuddles on the sofa. Ideally, he would suit a home where he will have that company for a good part of the day. Boss is happy to be left at home alone and is non-destructive. He would not like kennels or a kennel environment as he has always been a solid companion to his old owner.
Boss needs someone with dog experience and who’s willing to continue with Boss’s basic training. He walks well on a lead and loves to travel in the car. At the moment, due to his poor recall and spaniel nose, Boss cannot be let off-lead unless in a secure area.
Boss does resource guard toys and is no longer given any which is the best option for him, as he gets very overstimulated and was resorting to snapping and growling if toys are around, or they are removed. Boss needs a child-free home, or dog-savvy children over 16+, due to his issues. Boss would also prefer a female-only home, or a household with an understanding male, as he always favours women.
Boss can live with cats; however, he will chase them in the garden. He can live with other dogs and has attended dog day care and mixes very well with other dogs of all sizes. He also sleeps with another spaniel in his foster home. His fosterer will happily have him back if you wish to go away on holiday.
Boss is neutered and has had pancreatitis previously. Tests show his levels are still slightly elevated which can be controlled by a low fat suitable diet for him. He was extremely overweight when he arrived but is now at a healthy weight.
