28/10/19 – Sandy has found a home

Beautiful Sandy is a cream coloured German Shepherd girl, believed to be about 12 years old. RSPCA South Godstone in Surrey are looking for a special home for this loving lady because she doesn’t like going out. She needs a spacious home and garden and an owner as unadventurous as her!

Sandy loves a fuss and like to play. GSDs being super brainy, she likes to play scent games and is driven to please. Such a Good Girl!

Sandy wants to be the only pet and would prefer only adults at home. She needs company a lot of the time and is a lovely, peaceful presence. Her dislike of going out is due to her very limited former life. She was shut in a small kitchen behind a child gate for most of the time.

RSPCA South Godstone say, “After a few weeks settling in at the centre, we noticed some odd behaviour. Sandy was extremely stressed on her daily walks however in her kennel and environments she was familiar with she was able to relax. It was as if we had two Sandy’s. It became apparent that Sandy was struggling to cope in the outside world. She was scared and it was heart breaking to see her get so worked up. Could she be agoraphobic?

“She needs routine and familiarity… Sandy will not be able to go out for walks so does require a good sized garden in a quieter area. A garden where Sandy feels safe and secure to continue her basic training, play scent games and of course lounge in the shade or sun.”

Perhaps this unusual trait is the reason Sandy has been overlooked so far. Most people want a dog they can walk. In all other respects, Sandy is a normal, happy, loving dog. She’s just a homebody and always will be!
