Patrick and PJ are 11-year-old Dachshund boys who are with Pro Dogs Direct, in a foster home in Aldershot, Hampshire.

These boys have lived a sheltered life so are nervous initially with new people, but once they have settled they adore their chosen human and love a cuddle. They have both been much loved but sadly their owner passed away.

Patrick and PJ are not used to children so need an adult home, or one with occasional visiting children. They are currently living with cats and have accepted them well. They are also fine with other dogs and are living with several dogs currently.

Both Patrick and PJ have had surgery for IVDD (Inter Vertebral Disc Disease) which was not completely successful and so they have limited mobility. It has also affected their continence and so they do have accidents, mostly faecal, but this is easily managed and if diet guidelines are followed it does not pose an issue. Pro Digs Direct will obviously discuss this with suitable applicants.

They are able to get around the house and garden well, and they manage a step to get in and out of the garden. They are both taking low dose pain medication daily to ensure they are comfortable. They do not have formal exercise, as they haven’t for some years, but love being in the garden. You will need to have soft flooring – carpet or rugs – to protect their legs and feet.

Patrick and PJ are content and happy dogs who love a fuss when they trust you. They bark at strange noises and when someone is at the door, and they are nervous with visitors but not aggressive. They are content knowing their human is around and they will happily choose their favourite bed for a snooze. They travel OK in the car; Patrick drools but is not vocal or worried. Pro Dogs Direct are looking into the possibility that wheels may assist them in getting out and about.

Patrick and PJ need a quiet home with patient owners who will allow them time to adjust and settle and, most of all, time to trust. They are not used to being left for long so will need owners around for most of the day.

The boys have been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. They have recently had general blood tests and a full dental. They are up to date with flea and worming treatment.

Potential adopters will be expected to travel to Aldershot, Hampshire to meet Patrick and PJ.
